When you spend most of your time talking about something you love, trying to get others to see how amazing it is, your obsession is showing, and things that obsess you become idols.
I know a girl who loves God, but loves her boyfriend a little bit more.
How do I know you ask?
Because her boyfriend is all she ever talks about. She is always trying to tell me how amazing he is. Always telling me what amazing things he does. Always bragging, always glorifying, always worshiping. And while this might seem like a natural way to feel good about the love of your life, it shows something more. It shows her obsession, her little god. Since she talks about him more than she talks about the true God, I know the order of worship in her heart.
If you find yourself giving constant witness about a certain topic—working with your mouth to convince others to agree with you about your political view, a certain diet, a new app, or of a way of living—then chances are you are obsessed.
When you talk, your obsession is showing.
Cover up by closing your mouth, and thanking God for who He is instead. Tell others about Him. And when you talk you’ll let your worship show.
“Never have any other gods.”
