"This is a statement that can be trusted. If anyone sets his heart on being a bishop, he desires something excellent" 1Timothy 3:1
Timothy is describing church leaders, such as bishops and deacons in this passage. My God Girl Bible said that bishop can also mean difficult. These words can be connected by considering all the difficulty involved in being a bishop. Timothy continues to elaborate in Chapter 3 with all the requirements that come with being one such as being gentle, without a love for money, and a good reputation.
A lot of the world is accessible, "right at your fingertips", and within reach. Anything difficult is the opposite of what all the word has to offer. It can also be difficult to not indulge in the world. I think this verse stood out to me because it is what I am striving to be. I want to be difficult.
"Train yourself to live a godly life. Training the body helps a little, but godly living helps in every way" v.8
When I go to the gym to train for swimming but don't spend time with God or read my Bible, I feel tired the next day with no motivation to go and workout again. It can be easy to only focus on my physical gains but just as my good friend Karen says: "You don't usually go a day without feeding your physical body, so the same should go for your spiritual body". It's easy to want to follow along with all the kids at my school by fooling around and partying and experimenting with illegal things, tempting sometimes in fact. But that would make me a follower, not an example.
I want to continue to become more like Jesus, a leader of people, and a follower of God, not the other way around.
Thank you for this warm home you have blessed me with that keeps me safe and warm from all the rain outside right now. Please help me as I continue to rise above the insanity of defying you just to sit in and have fun. I know that it's not worth it and the cheap thrills don't last, but you do. I want people who see me to see you, ad make decisions on who you are based on how I act. I don't want them to miss out on knowing who you are and how much you love them. Please make me into a better disciple of who you are everyday. Please bless Hayley DiMarco for making this website and place for girls to come together and share how you continue to change our lives. Amen.
