do not forget my teachings,
and keep my commands in mind,
In my personal journal I've been going through these verses one at a time. I ask myself questions like the following: What does it mean? Do I understand what is being said? What does God want me to do in response to the verse?
This verse means to keep God's teachings and commands with me in my mind and focus at all times. When I feel good and when I feel bad. All the time. How might I do that? Setting priorities for the year is good when done in the light of this verse. What good is a goal if not based on faith? There are many things we can spend our time on, but not all are useful in the eternal perspective. Making a to-do list just to check things off isn't going to make me a more mature Christian. And isn't that what we want to become? Anything that doesn't serve that goal is a waste of time.
Some ways I know I can keep God's teachings in my mind and heart include memorizing verses, taking one verse a day to concentrate on and try to treat people in the light of it and praying specifically about how I can enact this daily. Obviously, some verses lend themselves more to specific action than others. This verse tells me that keeping God and His commands in mind constantly will help me develop a new mindset of asking myself what He wants instead of just seeking my own goals all the time. What do you think?
