Brothers and sisters, in the last week obedience has been a very strong word in my heart. I have been studying the word to learn more of the obedience in our relationship with God, friends what I came across shook me!!
Obedience is so important, a message that we have missed for some time now, everyone is raving about salvation, grace, love and mercy but no one is focusing on obedience!!! Did you know that obedience is dominated in both the new and the Old Testament? Some of you think that Jesus did away with obedience because he died on the cross and by that act we received salvation so obedience is more lenient now. YOU ARE WRONG. In fact Jesus got even stricter about obedience in the New Testament. Where Moses said, “Do not run off with another person’s wife, Jesus said “Do not even think about it”. The greatest testimony of Jesus life here on earth was His obedience. See, we are in a time where the phrases “we are only human” “God knows my heart when I do sinful things” “No one is perfect” etc well my friends I have news for you, those excuses are LIES, LIES, LIES from satan!!!!
There is no in-between, you are either obedient or you are disobedient, there is no half way. You cannot excuse it, disobedience is a voluntary sin!!! James 4:17 “If anyone, then, knows the good they ought to do and doesn’t do it, it is sin for them.” I once heard a sermon where a pastor said “Don’t let anyone tell you that you are saved. You know your heart” what a powerful message, today people are fooled, they are told that by saying a sinners prayer they are saved and that they don’t need to change. Don’t you know that a carnal heart cannot submit under the law of God? Jesus said “If you love me, you will keep my commandments” therefore you CANNOT carry on with you cannot stay the same, the purpose of salvation is to create in us a new heart that is a, new attitude that says “I delight to do your will, o my God. You have written your commandments in my heart”. Jesus said that “a tree is known by its fruits”. Die to self!!
True obedience is heart deep, we will never know the truth that is, or obedience that is, until we get a clear concept of God and His holiness. Step out of the worlds mind-set and study your word, the word is the only way to keep you from this world and its ways to approve sins that are NOT approved by God. The Pharisees tried to apply their own external standards of obedience to Jesus, they didn’t fit so they accused Jesus of being disobedient. The issue between man and God is obedience. People see obedience as rules and regulations, instead of seeing it for what it is, obeying God is simply because of one reason and one only, love. We serve and obey God because we love Him. If you are doing it for any other reason, YOU are wasting your time. God sees our hearts and knows its intentions, if you are obeying and serving God merely because you feel it’s your duty, because you think it’s the right thing to do or because you are afraid of where you will end up in the afterlife, well my friend you may as well pack up and prepare for the message you worked so hard to avoid. Obedience is not about self, it is not about you, it’s not about your will, the Pharisees hung on the lips of Jesus every word and STILL MISSED THE POINT!!! God does not tolerate disobedience and neither does He negotiate with it.
I have come about many circumstances where someone is out and openly mocking God and no one will speak up for they “don’t want to judge”, where there are churches preaching a strong word and when it’s time to practice that word the church takes a backseat in fear, I have come across pastors that live sinfully and everyone approves with silence “because it has nothing to do with them”. YOU ARE BEING DISOBEDIENT! Jesus did not stand still or keep quiet when these things happened around Him, NO way, He threw over the tables, He drove out all the people that were sinful in the house of the Lord and rebuked them!! He was not scared of whom He would offend, who would not like Him anymore or what people thought, He did it out of love and obedience for His Father. Today people encourage the sin in His house and in a “saved” lifestyle. What has become of God’s children???? Philippians 1:6 “being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” Sin is made acceptable in this world, sin is made acceptable by the children of God. We cannot see change if we are not willing to be the change. STAND UP, SPEAK UP and SHOW YOUR FRUIT BY YOUR LIFESTYLE.
Seek God’s face daily for strength to stay obedient and to shine a light reflecting Him. Our daily prayer should not be to obey the commands better but to obey God. John 15:4 “Remain in Me, and I will remain in you. Just as no branch can bear fruit by itself unless it remains in the vine, neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in Me. “ God does not measure obedience like we do through “righteous acts” “the outward appearance”, God looks at the heat.
Let’s take a look at David’s heart, when Samuel first saw David’s brothers he thought he knew who would be anointed king (David’s brother). God corrected him by saying that David “the brother that was not even in the queue for consideration” was to be the anointed, Samuel saw a strong, fit and tall man “outer appearance” and God saw the heart “inner appearance”. When Goliath mocked God and challenged Saul’s soldiers to fight him, everyone took a back seat, David’s heart is beautifully shown here, he was a small Shepard’s boy that knew nothing about fighting but he could not stand still and hear this giant make a mockery of God. David’s brother was angry that David wanted to accept the challenge for he did not have the heart David had for God. (See the difference in Samuel and God’s vision?)
I have added a few scriptures below to point out just how serious Jesus spoke of obedience, these scriptures are from the Old and the New Testament and I believe that reading through it, will imprint a strong message on your heart like it has mine today. There are many, many more, I encourage you to find a deeper meaning into this word by studying your word. Amen

John 14:21 21 Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me. The one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love them and show myself to them.”
John 14:23 23 Jesus replied, “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them.
